Former detainees or asylum seekers or third parties acting on their behalf can request a copy of their medical records by making a request to the Department of Home Affairs under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth) (FOI Act). Information on how to make a request under the FOI Act is available at https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/foi/Pages/how-to-make-a-request.aspx. The website includes an online form, which the Department requests applicants to complete.
Please note that IHMS does not have authority to release records which are the property of the hospitals of the respective host nation. To that end, for access to Nauru or Taiwan hospital medical records please contact the respective host governments.
